USED FURS

introduction garments furnishing toys

The cuddliest of restyling options is definitely stuffed animals. Holladay Furs in Utah can make as many as 15 teddy bears from one full-length fur coat. Seventy different styles of bears and bunny rabbits are available and different sizes. Elizabeth Drown says her company can even make a teddy bear out of a fur collar.

Eyes are acrylic (glass is not child-proof); noses are hand-made leather and mouths are embroidered silk. Muzzles can be made hand-sheared or made of pig suede. Drown keeps a supply of multicolored fur scraps, so she can supplement your fur with a different shade for hands or feet details.

Bears are priced at $10 per inch; a ten-inch bear costs $100. Allow for four weeks turnaround time.

Drown will use many different fur types, but no coats made from endangered animals. She also restricts the use of long-haired furs (fox, raccoon, long-haired beaver) to large animals, because the shape of small animals gets lost in long-haired fur.

Other items available include toy skunks, massage mitts and pillows.
